Here is my story:
Welcome to my blog, a space where I’m eager to share my story and experiences with you. I am Alyssa, a sober single mother to two incredible kids, Mia and Angel, and my life’s journey has been one of immense challenges, growth, and hope.
In 2009, life took an unexpected turn when I found myself eight months pregnant with my daughter and mourning the sudden loss of her father. It was a moment that shattered my world, leaving me to navigate the uncharted waters of single motherhood while grieving a profound loss. The pain was nearly unbearable, but my daughter became my source of strength and inspiration.
But of course, life had more tests in store for me. In 2012, my father Angel, who had battled addiction for many, many years, lost his fight to the very illnesses that had haunted him. Witnessing his struggles had a profound impact on my understanding of the far-reaching consequences of addiction, not just on the individual but on their entire family. His memory lives inside me daily and he is one of the many reasons why I continue to live a sober life.
Fast forward to now, and I stand here today, almost 4 years clean, as a testament to the power of recovery. In my darkest moments, I found the strength to overcome my own battle with opiates. It was a path fraught with challenges, but each day brought me closer to sobriety and the promise of a brighter future for my children.
In 2020, I took another courageous step on my journey by leaving a verbally and physically abusive relationship with Angel’s father. It was a moment of profound transformation and liberation, one that I hope to inspire others to undertake when they find themselves trapped in harmful situations.
My experiences have driven me to raise awareness for mental health and addiction, shedding light on the struggles that so many silently endure. It is my mission to create a space where we can openly discuss the challenges we face, break down the stigma that surrounds addiction and mental health, and offer support and hope to those who need it most. There have been many times where I have felt alone in my struggles and like there was noway that anyone else could possibly understand what I was facing. But I am here to tell you that this journey doesn’t have to be isolating and you are not alone.
Through this blog, I aim to share my personal journey, lessons learned, and the invaluable insights I’ve gathered along the way. I hope that my experiences can provide a beacon of hope for others who may be walking a similar path or facing their own set of hurdles., and I hope I can show you that a lot of the triggers and cravings you have are not unusual.
Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I look forward to exploring the path to recovery, resilience, and renewal with you. No matter where you are in your sobriety journey, together, we can create a community of strength and support as we strive for a healthier and more empowered future.
With gratitude,
Alyssa
